Talk: Benjamin Berkels

On Feb. 6, 17 ct, Dr. Benjamin Berkels from the Institute for Numerical Simulations, Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, will give a talk on "Variational Image Reconstruction Using Nonrigid Registration".

Location: MIC-Arena, Maria-Goeppert-Str. 3, 23562 Lübeck

Title: Variational Image Reconstruction Using Nonrigid Registration

Abstract: In this talk, I present a variational framework to handle the registration of hundreds of noisy consecutive images to a single image based on a nonrigid, nonparametric registration framework for image pairs. The resulting method allows to average series of very noisy scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) images producing an improved image that considerably surpasses the quality attainable by single shot STEM images. Furthermore, I discuss how to adapt the general registration ideas to recent problems from radiation therapy and epilepsy surgery, covering a sparse-to-dense and a 2D-to-3D registration problem.
