Title: Segmentation Validation by Relating Manual and Algorithmic Performance

Abstract:

The development of segmentation algorithms for various problems is an important research field in medical image processing. The validation of these algorithms is difficult due to the inherent uncertainty in manual segmentations. This talk will review existing approaches for evaluation and ground truth estimation from multiple references and present first steps towards a new methodology that evaluates the quality of a segmentation algorithm in relation to the variability of manual delineations. Examples will be shown from a current study on liver tumor segmentation in CT.
