Title: An Approach for Computing Binary Edge Maps

Abtract: Image segmentation and edge detection are two closely related problems. Once an image is decomposed into homogeneous regions, the boundaries of these segments can be seen as edges. On the other hand, edges extracted from an image often separate image segments. In each case the important features are edges.

In this work a novel approach to computing binary edge maps is presented. In contrast to existing methods, the edges obtained are truly binary, i.e. no hysteresis or thresholding is performed. First, theoretical results are shown and then, academic as well as real-life applications are discussed.
