Title: Quantitative assessment of kidney function using dynamic enhanced MRI

Abstract: Kidney diseases are affecting an increasing number of people in European and Worldwide population, one of the most common causes of kidney disease being diabetes and hypertension. They are difficult and expensive to treat and can severely deteriorate quality of life (e.g. going on dialysis).
For this reason, it is particularly important to detect kidney function reduction at an early stage. Today's “gold standard”' is isotope renography, which might cause the patient an unnecessary exposure to radiation. I will present another technique that is used, based on dynamic MRI, enhanced by contrast agent. This technique is very appealing, but it still presents some challenges, among which image registration, segmentation and modelling, which I will discuss in the course of this talk.
